I recently had the pleasure to sit down and meet the wonderful Melissa Dean, owner of Casa Natal and licensed midwife of Morgan Hill’s first and only birth center. With natural birthing taking on a new popularity wave after seeing the launch of much applauded documentaries such as The Business of Being Born series and outspoken public figures like Jessica Simpson, Alanis Morrisette, and Giselle Bundchen, birthing centers are popping up and rising to the occasion!
Having moved recently from San Francisco, where the natural birthing community is well and thriving, I was concerned with not having a strong community to belong to of the sort in the South Bay, especially in little Morgan Hill. Melissa Dean, head midwife and experienced doula, has come to the rescue for many mom’s-to-be who wish to have a peaceful environment to give birth in with the full support of a licensed midwife.
Melissa is a mother herself and an experienced midwife who knows the importance of bringing a child into the world with the best experience possible for mother and child. The moment you walk into Casa Natal, you are surrounded by calming colors, low ambient light, and soothing energy. You can forget about birthing in a hospital room’s bright lights, doctor’s and nurses revolving in and out the door or switching shifts, and laying down in a hospital bed. The birthing center is equipped with two gorgeous bedrooms, birthing tub, remodeled modern bathrooms, clean sheets and towels, as well as a kitchen for the laboring mother or father to have a bite to eat or drink during long hours of labor.
You will feel like you are in a home away from home perfectly equipped for you and your baby to enter the world!
